In Search of the Best Pain Clinic in LA: Convenience Issues – Appointment Timeliness

Don't worry, I'm not going to rush you either!

Of all of the measures of quality service, this is the one that we at Schlesinger Pain Centers struggle with most. The best pain clinic in Los Angeles strives constantly to run on-time, but rarely does.  There is an old saying, “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.” The same could be said for better on-time performance. Unfortunately, even more so than the operation of a commercial airline, the delivery of medical care is inherently unpredictable. With an airline, at least you know where you are going, how long it usually takes and what the weather and other confounding factors are that you will face. When we schedule a new patient consultation, we often have no idea what will walk in, but like the airline industry, it is usually better to push ahead rather than to give up and turn back. We do this because once I have entered an examination room there is an unspoken pledge to evaluate and treat the patient’s problem as well and as thoroughly as is possible, regardless of whether or not it puts me behind schedule. And when my staff chides me, as often they do for taking to much time with Mrs. X, I tell them, “If you are too busy to properly care for the patients in your office, perhaps you should not care for them at all.” At this point I usually go into the next room, where I tell Mr. Y, ”Don’t worry! I’m not going to rush you either.”
