Pain Support Group Launch

By | October 24, 2011

We believe that everyone has a story to tell and that these narratives will be therapeutic both for the teller and the listeners.

We will finally be starting our Chronic Pain Support Group here at Schlesinger Pain Centers. Over the past couple of weeks we have had a strong, spontaneous outpouring of interest by a number of our patients.  Other chronic pain support groups were found wanting either because of focus, participation or leadership.

Technology will be down played, because it is assumed that as a patient at Schlesinger Pain Centers you are already receiving or are at least aware of all of the latest treatments. The focus of the group will be navigating life’s challenges in the face of chronic pain despite maximal medical therapy.

We hope that this group will be different, because you are different. I have always considered myself lucky to have some of the greatest patients in the world, people with sensitivity, understanding and amazing personal medical journeys. Some of these stories have been told in these pages and many more need to be shared.

I am sure that this group concept will be a success because we have test-driven it in the office on a number of occasions. When a new patient comes to the office with a complex problem, not infrequently we will have an established patient on the list with a similar condition and we often ask both parties if they would be interested in talking. The results of these conversations have been meaningful, both to the new patient and their newly found mentor.

The group will meet at 6 PM in the Burbank office on the third Monday of every month starting on November 14th. Coffee and water will be provided. Donations to the American Pain Foundation will be accepted, but attendance will be free to all.
