Support Groups: Passive Reception

By | November 9, 2011

Sometimes it's enough just to listen.

An often-overlooked function of chronic pain support groups is as a forum in which the neophyte can passively experience concerns and comments of his fellow suffers. Often in the beginning patients feel overwhelmed. The may not even know what it is that they really want to know. By listening to the more experienced members of the group they may get a sense of the current state of knowledge in the field as well as the limits of treatment.
