Cancer on the Weekend: The Trial Continued

“Call me, beep me if you wanna reach me, If you wanna page me it’s okay . . .”

Before sending Nancy home I gave her my beeper number and my cell phone number with explicit instructions to call me the next morning at around 9AM.  At that time Nancy reported moderate relief of pain and no side effects.  It was agreed that I would meet her at the Schlesinger Pain Centers Burbank Office after my golf game.  Nancy was much better although still in pain.  I increased the rate of the infusion and made plans to speak with Nancy via telephone the next day and see her in the office if necessary.  As it turned out, it was not necessary to meet in Burbank the next day and by Monday it was clear that the trial was a success even with a catheter tip placement that was 3 to 4 segments low.  Fearing infection, the trial catheter was removed on Tuesday afternoon and we began to anxiously await authorization for the final pump implantation.
