One of the most under-appreciated benefits of the adaptive yoga therapy or regular physical activity in general is as an early warning system for chronic degenerative processes such as spinal stenosis. At Schlesinger Pain Centers we have had many patients present with pain brought on by certain types of physical activity. These patients usually present at a much earlier stage of their disease. As in most branches of medicine, early diagnosis usually leads to easier and more successful treatment. We often find that with our sedentary patients they present once the activities of daily living (ADL) have become painful or impossible. This turns what should be an elective work up taking days to weeks into an acute emergency. With our more active patients we often find the that scaling back even slightly on their physical activities will allow the work up and treatment of their problem to take place in a calm, orderly and effective manner. The choice is yours.
