We at Schlesinger Pain Centers understand that it is impossible for the patient to effectively participate in physical therapy, yoga therapy and exercise therapy if they are still in pain. For this reason the first part of therapy involves NSAIDs, oral pain medication and where appropriate injection therapy followed by lumbar decompression therapy using both traction and inversion. For most patients, this phase of therapy will last two to four weeks before moving on to phase two designed to restore suppleness. While drug therapy and injection therapy are viewed as time limited, spinal decompression therapy is a lifelong pursuit for these patients, hence the importance of transitioning from traction to inversion, from medical facility to home.
