Provocative Discography

Provocative discography is a functional test where small amounts of X-Ray dye are injected into a disc to see if the disc itself is a cause of chronic pain.  The pressure within the disc is measured as is the patient’s response to the injection.  The dye pattern is then studied fluoroscopically and sometimes with a CAT scan to look for small tears or fissures.  Properly done the insertion of the needles should be nearly painless.
